The Get Better Sound DVD!!!
Get Better Sound is not about How Components Work (although it includes that info, when explaining why a tip works against “Audiophile Common Knowledge”). There are already plenty of excellent books on this topic, written by experts in the field. They include mathematical formulae, technical discussions, and much more. They provide interesting reading and valuable information for those who enjoy reading these near-textbook types of resources.
Get Better Sound is about How to Make Your Components Work Better. Only one book and DVD is available from someone who has professionally installed and voiced many hundreds of systems around North America. Presented in a conversational style, GBS is based not only on physics, but also on successful voicing experience gained from over 35 years of doing that in homes, dealer and manufacturer showrooms, and at audio shows.
Get Better Sound is not about selling you another component. The only agenda is about making those components that you already own come alive in your room.

You'll go on-site with Jim to an audiophile’s listening room to see implementation of some of Jim’s recommended techniques.
Jim debunks a number of the recurring myths that prevent most audiophiles from getting much more from their systems. He calls these persistent-but-incorrect myths “Audiophile Common Knowledge”.
Audiophile Common Knowledge can be one of the greatest obstacles to gaining the performance that you paid for – the performance you should expect.
In addition to some all-new topics, Jim has chosen the most relevant tips from the Get Better Sound set-up manual. They are things that you’ll want to do. He discusses them in an easy-to-understand style. But he pulls no punches to be sure you have the information that’ll make a REAL difference.
While there have been some interesting commentaries that have appeared, the first comprehensive review has been posted in Positive Feedback Online – Issue 59. Rather than quoting it here, for those who might be interested in reading reviewer Jeff Day’s in-depth comments on the DVDs, please go to the actual review: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue59/better_sound.htm
The only significant area where we disagree with Jeff is the price. He quotes it at $39.70, the regular price. However Quarter Note Press has it promotionally priced at just US $29.50 right now!
The first full review to appear was at ComputerAudiophile.com, the leading source for info about the fastest growing new segment in audio – Computer Audio.

Your system test – and its performance goal
As Jim says at seminars he conducts and in the Get Better Sound DVD, here’s your test – and his goal - for your system. It’s in two parts:
(1) “When listening to your system, you should get the distinct impression that your listening room has no walls, no ceilings, and no speakers. The musicians have assembled to play a special concert, just for you.”
Jim calls this effect “playing the room.” It makes all the difference in your musical involvement.
(2) “Do you remember how you can still feel the emotional impact from a great concert - even the next day when you are at work? Your system should deliver this impact.”
If neither are happening for you, then you probably have a few things to do. Here’s the good news - you do NOT have to buy a new component to get it done. Just follow the tips in the Get Better Sound DVD!
Why is there a DVD when there is already a Set-up Manual?
As Jim has traveled around the country, voicing dozens of systems belonging to readers of GBS, one thing became obvious. Even though his readers had reported a real improvement in their sound after employing the tips in GBS, they were amazed at the additional level of improvement when Jim voiced their systems. This happened at every site.
When asked why the sound was so much better, Jim always replied that he employed exactly the same tips & techniques found in the GBS Set-up Manual. But he finally realized that actually SEEING and having the steps explained was more powerful and more effective for some people than only reading about them. And so, the GBS DVD series was born.
A few things that you’ll learn:
- How to make your system’s most important component work for you.
- The one thing your system must have to be musically satisfying.
- If you’re past 50, can you hear well enough to care about sound quality?
- Which FREE loudspeaker/component tweaks will yield huge dividends.
- Over 30 detailed room/speaker set-up tips that will improve your sound.
- Why you need to have an audio system “road map.”
- How to diagnose problems when your dealer/technician isn’t available.
- And much, much more.
Jim’s goal is to show you how to greatly improve your sound, and how to do it without spending a fortune. Plus, when you do make a purchase, you’ll be confident that you’ve selected the very best component.

Note from Jim Smith –
Please read or view the tips in the set-up manual or DVD that you purchase, and be sure to put some of the tips into action. If you don’t, then you’re wasting your money. Wasting money is the opposite result of why I wrote the book and produced the DVDs…
